Higgyball 22: Save the Date

Get your condiments ready, Higgyball22 is right around the corner. This year’s competition will be held on Saturday, May 23 2026 at 11:00 AM.

Higgyball22 Registration will take place on Sunday, April 26 2026 at 12:00 PM at www.higgyball.com.

Higgyball is a bocce tournament played with teams of two, so now is the time to make arrangements with a partner. If you can’t find a partner, add yourself to the Free Agent list or reach out to someone already on it. Each team will be charged an entry fee of $10 during the online sign-up process. (in this economy? That’s a bargain!)

As before, we will have 32 team spots. The top four teams from Higgyball21 will be provided automatic entry, but still need to sign up! Don’t wait until the last second, as slots fill quickly. A wait list will be opened if all 32 spots are taken.

Congrats Hilluth Billuth!

Higgyball 21 nearly matched the age of our winners, Dallas and Wally from Hilluth Billuth! After losing their first two matches, the whippersnappers didn’t lose again, winning their next seven matches. A well-deserved trophy. House Team took second, and Brothers From Different Mothers took third.

The MVPs this year went to Maeva Sarno and PJ Hile. Congrats! As always, many thanks to our gracious hosts Marc and Danielle. Please make it easier for them and clean up anything that you might have left behind.

H21 Is Here

We made it, Higgyball is here! The weather looks great, the fields are painted, and the coolers are being loaded with care. A few things:

  • BE ON TIME! Reminder for the address: 7650 King Rd. Oxford, OH 45056. The event starts at 11:00am, so be there before then, especially if you’re part of a team. If you’re signed up and cannot make it, please let us know right away. Speaking of teams, take a look at the rules. Newcomers should familiarize themselves with how we run things. As usual, we’ll run everything through a computer on the deck, so you can see field assignments and standings on the big screen. Teams should check in at the deck computer when you arrive, because we need all teams present to begin the tournament. If you’re ridiculously late, we’ll give you a loss for your first round match-up. If you know you will be late, please let someone know long before the start of the event.
  • If you pledged your balls to Higgyball, please bring your bocce sets with you, and check in with a council member for field assignment. We’ll do our best to make sure you leave with the same balls you arrived with.
  • Please bring ice and food to share. There will be tubs and tables set up near the house. Also, please volunteer to help clean up after the event, whether tonight or tomorrow, it really helps. Thank you!

We’re just a few days away from Higgyball, so stretch those joints and ready those coozies. Here are just a few reminders to ensure you have a good Higgyball experience:

Speaking of teams, take a look at the rules. Newcomers should familiarize themselves with how we run things. As usual, we’ll run everything through a computer on the deck, so you can see field assignments and standings on the big screen. Teams should check in at the deck computer when you arrive (this is especially important because we need all teams present to begin the tournament). If you’re ridiculously late, we’ll give you a loss for your first round match-up. If you know you will be late, please let someone know long before the start of the event.
  • If you’ve signed up and your plans have changed regarding Higgyball, please let me know, and you’ll get your money back. If someone bows out the day of the event, we’ll take any replacements from the Wait List that are at Higgyball to fill the spot. If you would like to play and have yet to sign up, click here for the Wait List or add yourself to the Free Agent list.
  • If you pledged your balls to Higgyball, please bring your bocce sets with you, and check in with a council member for field assignment. We’ll do our best to make sure you leave with the same balls you arrived with.
  • Speaking of fields, we have heard the feedback and have a few changes in store for this year. The image below is subject to change, but should give you an idea. We’ve eliminated fields 1-3 up by the mailbox, and are using some repurposed pasture instead. Also, you might notice the big hill by the food tables is gone. Please write your local councilperson if you wish to have it returned.
  • The weather is looking to be amazing, but know that will change a dozen times between now and then! Reminder: The rain backup date is Sunday, May 25, 2025. Any teams that cannot make that date will get a refund.
  • No matter which day the event is held, please volunteer to help with the cleanup process. Our hosts are gracious to have us, but often are left with a big mess. Coordinate amongst yourselves and please offer to assist, either in the evening after the tournament or the following day.
  • Items to bring: water, sunscreen, bocce set(s), water, food items to share, lawn chairs, water, bug spray, sunglasses, tape measure, rain gear, swim suit and towel, and water.
  • Ice! It’s so important, it needs its own section. Please bring a large bag or two of ice to throw in the giant communal beverage tubs.
  • The parking location is just as it has been, to the right of the long driveway that leads back to the barn. Please park where everyone else parks, or ask someone that looks official. See the parking icon in the maps image above.
  • Fedora Taxi is available to hire to get back home if needed. Their rates are reasonable. (513) 255-9999
  • Lastly, check out the Higgyball Dry Goods store for cool swag. Do it!

Congrats to 509 Girlz!

Congratulations to 509 Girlz, Lori Oberlitner and Ang Bashore! Another prior winner (11 years ago at Higgyball 10), the 509 Girlz only had one loss on the day, and they tore through the knockout tournament to take the crown once again. Congrats!

The MVPs this year went to Danielle Mann and Marc Tincher, who also happen to be our gracious hosts. Big thanks to them, and don’t forget to help with cleanup today. Save the date for next year: Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Lastly, those fabled Higgyball 20 water bottles were waiting for me when I got home last night, so I will have them available for people to pick up. Please email mark.r.walker@gmail.com to make arrangements. For any out-of-towners, we’ll figure something out.

Aaaand we’re full. If you did not get a chance to sign up, please use the Wait List to reserve your team’s spot. We do occasionally have registered teams drop out for any number of reasons, so don’t hesitate. Also, if a registered team does have to drop out, please contact mark.r.walker@gmail.com for a full refund.

Congrats to Delta House Variants

A big congratulations to Dan and Peter from Delta House Variants!

Both are former winners (with different partners: Dan in 2017 with Flavor Savors, and Pete way back in 2012 with Northern Foes). This is their first victory as Delta House Variants. DHV had a tough road in the knockout tournament, but got through four (!!) former champions to take the crown, including an absolute drubbing of Wedding Jeans in the Final, 12-3. The MVPs this year went to Jen Robb and Liam Walker. Congrats!

A big thanks to our gracious hosts, Danielle and Marc, and everyone else who made Higgyball 19 a special year. It was an absolute perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday in May, and I cannot wait to do it again next year. We have some big plans for Higgyball 20, so save the date: Saturday, May 25, 2024.
